All people from Halle knows the unadorned city hall of Halle at the market place. Other cities  can splurge with their nice city halls but halle has a grey-brown chunk build in bauhaus-style. This city hall  was buil between 1928 and 1930 as a new administration building, behind the old city hall and got the name “Ratshof”. At the end of the second world war, the old city hall was destroyed by a air assault and after the war there was not enough money to reconstruct the historical city hall, so the Ratshof becomes the new city hall.

The only interesting thing at the new city hall in Halle are the right corner with the five, about two meters high sculptures. They were created by the sculptor Gustav Weidanz, he was professor at the Burg Giebichenstein between 1916 and 1958. The male plastics embodies the tradership, the mining and the industry which grows Halle. The two female sculptures symbolizes beauty, the nature, the monuments of Halle and the place of Halle at the nice river Saale.
